LOTEC 681

Interserie Sports Prototype

Interserie Prototype.
BMW M88 Power.

The LOTEC 681 was a Group 6 open-top sports prototype built by Kurt Lotterschmid in 1981, powered by the BMW M88 straight-six engine (3,500 cc, naturally aspirated). The car was an entirely own construction — chassis, bodywork, and engine integration — raced in the Interserie championship.

In its debut season, the 681 competed at Nürburgring (Pierburg-Preis, 3rd place), Most (2nd in Heat 1, qualified 2nd), Nürburgring Supersprint (3rd, qualified 2nd), and Zolder. The car ran in white livery with Cassani/BBS sponsorship, race number #1, on Dunlop tyres.

The 681 was the direct predecessor of the LOTEC M1C — sharing the same BMW M88 engine and Lotterschmid's chassis design philosophy, but transitioning from open to closed bodywork for the Group C regulations that followed.
